Audio Analyser problem

Post by KevinBenstead »

I'm setting up a show at theatre.

I'm trying to get music triggering working.

I setup my Cues / Sequences and Scenes as required.

then i add the music track to the cue i want to play the music.

i right click on the sequence and select BPM mode.

then i go the BPM settings and choose audio analysis. the audio analyser pops up and that is when the problems start.

If i now click on anywhere else (e.g on the live control screen to start playing the music.) Audio Analyser crashes.

Then after this i can't exit Lumidesk without using task manager to kill it.

Any advice?

I'm using the latest full release. (August 2011)

The audio analyser has changed since the last release.

I've just tried this on my home PC. It seems to work perfectly.

My home PC is a 2.7G E5400 with 2G RAM and a separate video card.
The theatre PC is a very old DELL with just 512M RAM and a graphics card integrtaed on the moter board. (sorry can't remember what processor it is but it's probably about 1.6GHz)

I suspect I'm running up against the end stops of what the theatre PC can do.

Hi

The Beta that you sent me a couple of days ago still crashes when i use Audio Analyser.

But this time the crash is different. Now the Audio analysier window stops working (the audio stops scrolling across the screen) and then a few seconds later the window disappears.

After this Lumidesk stops responding and we have to use Task Manager to kill it.

Hi Kevin and Julien
I updated my PC with the August release this evening. Now I have exactly the same problem with the audio analyser. My PC is also running XP - 1GB RAM 2,66Ghz core 2 duo E6750.

Hi Julien
Yes I have adminitrator rights, but my PC has only 1 GB of RAM (I overlooked your answer regarding the memory requirement). I will install more memory tomorrow.

Hi Julien
Hmm, installing more RAM in the PC did not help. However, if I don't open the option window in the audio analyzer tool, the tool stops crashing. As always, It might be a coincident.

Hi Julien
I have tested the Jan 20 beta and have seen the following:
1) The audio analyzer is stable, if you start Lumidesk on PC (which has no other programs running), start the audio analyzer, leave it as it is and have input (music) all the time.
2) If you stop the music, the audio analyzer will increase its gain control (AGC) and start to analyze noise rather that music. This will cause the tool to crash after some time.
3) The audio analyzer crashes within minutes if you change focus forth and back from Lumidesk to other programs e.g. Internet Explorer. The tool crashes immediately if Lumidesk in minimized.

Best regards,

Julien & Peter

This sounds (excuse the pun) very much like the problem I was having.

I must admit I hadn't picked up on the AGC function causing the analyser to start analysing noise. But it does explain why it crashed it would just crash after a while.

On the released version it also crashed if we tried to change anything on Lumidesk (e.g. switch from Live to Desktop mode)
