Effect-Manager

Hello,
i have one of the Showtec Sunstrip Active MK II. This fixture has 10 lamps with dimmer.
Now I want to create a chase-effect with all 10 lamps, but in the effect manager I can only see seven dimmers.
Is seven dimmers the maximum to control with the effect manager? How can I solve this problem?
regards
Chris

Hi Chris,
There is two way to do what you want :
First :
Patch a matrix 2X10 Generic dimmer, then delete unit 11 to 20 in the window patch
Your sunstrip will appear as a matrix, and the effect manager will let you apply kind of effects you're are looking for ...
Tested, and it works Fine !
The 2nd way is a little bit more complicated :
Go in ScanLib, open the RGB Generic
Then delete "Green" and "Blue" Parameters inthe Library
"Save As" (I call this "Red" Sunstrip") ==>> Lumidesk will tell you there is a mistake like "Green and Blue Channel Missing", this does'nt matter and the Library will be saved.
Now you go back to LD and Patch this "real-wrong" RGB fixture as the dimmer (described at the beginning of my answer) via a kind of matrix
Then Lumidesk believe you're programming some RGB Fixtures, but in fact it's only RED parameter for a simple dimmer in reality.
This "atypicall" way to do will let you have some other matrix effect avalaible in the effect manager window (normally reserved for RGB Fixtures)
When using this, always pay attention on the fact that for Lumidesk you're working on Red parameter of an RGB Fixture.
This mean that creating an effect based on Green or Blue color just won't do anything ...
You'll have to create your effects with Red color (even it's really dimmer) with less or more saturation for the dimming level.
This work great and is very power full.
Enjoy your lights, and try this :you'll love it !

I Actually use without problems a lot of Sunstrip Active DMX in 10 channel mode:
patched as a 30*8 Matrix of PAR36 (30x8 is due my placement of fixtures on stage..)

Hi,
I tried it and it works. But I still do not understand.
The solution with the red channel works better.
But when you select chaser or random then you cannot change the brightness.
But I still have a few questions.
I want to patch two sunstripes. That means two times a matrix of 2x10? Is that right?
And what means advanced Positionning?
thank you for your help.

Hi Chris
Good questions !
2 ways to work on brightness :
- On the right side OF the Windows (matrix effect Windows) you have an opacity slider that will act on the main brightness
- using red color, you can use customised colors with Less or more saturated red
For 2 sunstrip if there in same position, patch matrix 2x20 (vertical position ) or 20 x 2 (horizontal position)
Once done, in the patch window just delete the 20 unused Dmx channels 21 to 40
Advanced positioned let you say where is the first lamp and then the 11th. First choose the same matrix you first choose : 2x20 or 20x2. You'll have the drawing of 40 lamps
The drawing is clear to understand. This important because the offset between units will evacuated according to this drawing
Good luck !

I have been using Lumidesk for a few years now but I never got the hang of the x/y area to make lights do what I want, so I always used the built in effects and tried to tweak them a little. Is there no place that shares or swaps cool effects generated with Lumidesk that would work for other lights? I am having a time trying to come up with ideas. I know what I want my lights to do but I can never quite get them to do what I want. Please help someone.
