Hello form a noob
Hello form a noob
Hi All
Just a quick brief post to introduce myself.
I am based in Exmouth which is a coastal town in the UK, I have been involved in the entertainment industry for the past 15 or more years specialising in Firework Displays and Special effects.
I have now moved into the audio and lighting area and have just got myself a Lumidesk Ultimate controller ( waiting for it to arrive ) so will be quite active on these forums shortly.
If anyone has any useful tips they wish to share please feel free to PM me, I will likewise try and answer any question I can.
Thanks
Sy

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your lumidesk purchase! The forums tend to be a little slow, but support is usually pretty quick to reply to posts.

There is a family of suites where the core programming is used, but is customized to offer features in different forms. So the software packages can be branded and sold for different applications. They share the same visualizer and many of the same icons. But the menu system of each program and arrangment of the program is unique for each brand. This gives an assorment of options for the user to choose the application that fits his needs best.
Daslight is one brand.
Lumidesk is another.
sirs-3 is a lumidesk reseller
dmxsoft is a direct reseller of all suites

Hi Casey
What are your personal first impressions of the lumidesk controller / software ?
I was a little disapointed with the volume of people here in the forum, so i am guessing its eary days for lumidesk.
Cannot wait for mine to arrive, have you any tips to speed my learning up ?
Cheers

Re: Hello form a noob
Watch the video tutorials!! They should get you up and running and using advanced features in no longer than an hour.(providing you have some knowledge of how to use a computer and you know what the term DMX means)
If they don't then let me know...
p.s. LumiDesk has been around for about 3 years and there are around 1000 users, but the forum is less than 1 year old so not a lot of people know about it at the moment

Hi SimonB
Thanks for your reply, I have been looking at the tuts on the site, and yes I do have a rough idea on how a pc works, I took my 1st exam in Computing in 1991 and became a practitioner with the British computer society in 2008. I am now a senior Network Technician for my sins !
DMX I am a little less knowledgeable on as I have only a few years experience with this but learning all the time !
It is a shame the forums are not used as well as it could be, but as you say its only 12 months old so early days.
Looking forward to receiving the hardware so I can start playing and having fun !
Cheers

Re: Hello form a noob
Yeah Lumidesk has been around since late 2007 and early 2008. So it's still a young product. The forum is even younger. Lumidesk is pretty simple to use with basic functions. So alot of people don't need to seek help. The more complex use lumidesk gets, the more need for help from forum users. There are a few of us here, so anything you come across, post away. The tutorials are really good, and show you alot of how to get started.

I am still waiting for my ultimate to arrive from the states ;0(
when it arrives we will give it a spin, does it come with a remote controll ?

Re: Hello form a noob
It should come with an ac cord, usb cable, and the interface. remote controls are not included. any universal remote should work for IR control.
Re: Hello form a noob
Cant believe how tight they are not to provide a IR controller !
They charged me enough for the thing the least you would have thought is they throw one in the box !
