external sequencer & MIDI

I want to use Lumidesk to accomplish what is in this video:

I want to use the sequencer in my DAW to program my scenes/sequences and I want to use MIDI control changes to control the intensities and fades in and out of the lights.

The device in the video translates MIDI to DMX and directly sends that to the lights. I'm hoping that I can instead use Lumidesk as the translator. I have a dongle for Lumidesk to send the DMX messages to the lights.

Can this be done and if so how?
